Groton/Mystic (softball), East Lyme (baseball) take 9-10-year-old titles

Stonington — Emma Robinson pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts, as Groton/Mystic edged Waterford 6-4 Friday for the District 10 9-10-year-old Little League softball championsh­ip.

Katie MacPherson, Maerin Lyon, Hailey Merrill and Lauren Pelletier each had two hits for Groton/Mystic. Paige Jessuck and Charlotte Jessuck combined for strike out six for Waterford. Paige Jessuck has three hits and Charlotte Jessuck and Katie Dziecinny each doubled.

District 10 Senior League softball (15-16)

• Hannah Smith struck out nine and Shailynn Williams had a tworun double for Ledyard as it earned the first slot in the championsh­ip game with a 15-0 victory over Waterford in the winners' bracket final. Emma Monahan and Brynn Holmes had hits for Waterford, which will play in the losers' bracket at noon Saturday against New London at Lisa Dedrick Field.

Conn. Section III softball (11-12)

• Charlotte Cabral pitched a one-hitter, striking out five, as Groton/Mystic topped Coginchaug 7-1 Thursday in Rocky Hill. Katie Tuohy added two hits for Groton/Mystic. Mia Poturnicki had a hit and struck out four over five innings for Coginchaug.

District 10 LL baseball (11-12)

• Trace Morales pitched a two-hitter through five innings Thursday, striking out seven and walking one as Mystic defeated Waterford 11-0. Morales also capped a seven-run fifth inning with a threerun homer and Charlie Tarbox and Payton Neale also had hits in the inning. Quinn Speller and Anthony Jessuck had hits for Waterford.

• Nathan Virtue and Jack Ballou each had three hits and two runs scored in Groton's 12-0 win Thursday over Lyme/Old Lyme. Virtue also picked up the win, striking out three in three innings of work. Zander Timmerman had a two-run single to pad the Groton lead, while Brady Borysewicz and Calvin McCoy chipped in with two hits apiece. Leland Hine and Griffin McGlinchey had hits for Lyme/Old Lyme.

District 10 LL baseball (10-11)

• Cooper Sheehan pitched a complete-game six-hitter, striking out three, as Waterford defeated East Lyme 3-1 in the semifinals. Remy Coderre was 3-for-3, including double and an RBI single for Waterford, Josh Bergstrom had a double and two RBI and Matt Gonet singled and scored. Gianni Vora had an RBI double for East Lyme, Luke Walsh singled and scored a run and Noah Farrior pitched two strong innings in relief, striking out four.

Waterford will face Mystic in the best-of-three championsh­ip series beginning at 3 p.m. Sunday at Mystic's Rossie Field.

• Liam Joyce pitched 3.2 innings of scoreless relief, striking out eight, and Griffin Pollard closed the game as Mystic defeated Pawcatuck 5-1 in an errorless semifinal. Joyce drew a bases-loaded walk in the first inning to drive in a run and Caleb Watson followed with a bloop single to right to score two more. Jace Wolfradt was the starting pitcher for Pawcatuck, striking out seven and allowing three runs on three hits over three innings. Camden Ogden pitched the final three innings in relief and Finn Eck led the way with two hits and walk, scoring twice. Chase Donnarummo was 2-for-3 for Pawcatuck.

District 10 LL baseball (9-10)

• Garrison Biggs was 3-for-4 with two RBI as East Lyme captured its second consecutiv­e district championsh­ip by beating Montville 105 Thursday. Aidan Cochrane added an inside-the-park home run for East Lyme and Andrew Sevigny struck out seven to earn the victory. Luke Chapman struck out six over four innings for Montville.

Tigers win

• Moises Nunez homered in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Connecticu­t Tigers a 3-2 win over the Lowell Spinners in a New York-Penn League game. Lowell (9-12) scored a run in the top of the 10th to take a 2-1 lead. Under minor league rules, each team starts the inning with a runner on second base in extra innings. In the bottom of the 10th, Ulrich Bojarski of the Tigers was put on second base. Nunez followed with the game-winning homer. Eric De La Rosa had an RBI single in the fourth inning for the Tigers (912).

Schooners fall

• The Keene Swamp Bats scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally for an 8-7 win over the Mystic Schooners in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Keene, which trailed 7-0 after three innings, hit four homers in the seventh. Mystic (14-10) got homers from Chris Dutra (Duke) and Freddy Sabido (Wagner).

Zone 6 Legion baseball

• Niantic beat Norwich 14-5 on Thursday. Chris Malcom had two hits and scored three runs and Matt Abbey had two hits and scored twice for Niantic (14-5-1). Riley Burke, Aaron Penney and Daniel Blair, who tripled, had two hits each for Norwich (1-17).

Lacrosse
