Groton — Richard Gerrard Kosta, 91, of Groton, died Thursday, July 5, 2018, at the Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London.

He was born in Manhattan, N.Y. on Oct. 9, 1926, the son of Geri and Catherine Conley Kosta. He was the husband of Joanne Caisse Kosta, who survives him. He was predecease­d by his brother, Russell Kosta of Pottsville, Pa. Raised in Woodside Queens, he attended Saint Teresa School and Grover Cleveland High School.

Mr. Kosta was a veteran of WWII, serving in the United States Army. He was retired, having been employed by the United States Navy at the New York Naval Shipyard in Brooklyn, N.Y., and later as a Supervisor of Shipbuildi­ng at the Electric Boat Company in Groton. He was a communican­t of Sacred Heart Church in Groton.

In addition to his wife, Joanne, he is survived by a son, Richard W. Kosta and his wife, Linda, of Mystic; a granddaugh­ter, Elizabeth O’Connell and her husband, Sean, of Brooklyn, N.Y.

There will be a calling hour from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church. Interment in the Connecticu­t State Veteran’s Cemetery in Middletown will be on a later date and will be private.
