Groton — Peter F. Fichera, 88, of Groton, died Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Beechwood Rehabilita­tion in New London.

Peter was born Feb. 15, 1930, in Lawrence, Mass., to Luigi and Giuseppina (Contarino) Fichera. After graduating high school, he spent two years in the U.S. Navy, then worked two years at Grace Chemical Company in Charleston, S.C., before coming back to Groton to raise his family.

He worked at Pfizer in Groton for 40 years (1954-1993), primarily as a laboratory technician. He was a friendly, outgoing person who really enjoyed his job and people. He loved theater and joined the Pfizer Players for their first production. He stayed actively involved with the Pfizer Player production­s for over 20 years, participat­ing in production­s such as Guys & Dolls, Lil Abner, and Fiddler on the Roof among many others. He also was actively involved with the Waterford Players and other community theater groups. Besides acting, singing and dancing, he also was a stage manager, director and producer.

He loved being involved with people and serving in some way. He always was active in community service, volunteeri­ng with the Mystic Seaport, Child and Family Agency, the New London V.F.W., multiple soup kitchens and providing transporta­tion for cancer patients. He was a member of Coastal Lodge #57 of Masons, he was a 32nd degree mason with the Valley of Norwich, A.A. Scottish Rite and a Noble of the Sphinx Shriners Bedouin Shrine Club, and was especially proud of the work with the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

He enjoyed life and loved to travel and see the world, taking numerous cruises and trips to various locations in the U.S. and Europe with family and friends.

He is survived by his son Les Fichera, daughter-in-law Nancy Fichera, and his grandchild­ren Jennifer Deeter, Janelle Parnell, Jonan Fichera and Jared Fichera, as well as eight great-grandchild­ren. He is also survived by his twin sister, Nancy Consoli, and his partner of 18 years, Ginny Ager, along with her children Jeanne Tucker, Robert Ager, and Suzanne Simpson, four grandchild­ren, and one great-grandchild. He was predecease­d by his former wife, Noella Fichera, daughter Dawn Fichera and brother Fred Fichera.

Memorial Visitation will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, with a Memorial Service beginning at 4 p.m. at the Byles Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St., in Groton.
