MARITIME SOCIETY OFFERING TOURS OF NEW LONDON LEDGE LIGHT

- — Julia Bergman

New London — The New London Maritime Society is operating both scheduled and chartered tours of the inside of New London Ledge Light, the historic lighthouse at the mouth of New London Harbor.

A six-passenger boat captained by Matt Lynch of Water Transit Services departs from the Custom House Pier on New London’s Waterfront Park, with tour times varying depending on tides, weather and the captain’s availability. Upon landing at the lighthouse, passengers can explore the structure, including its lantern. Tours last about 90 minutes.

Passengers are required to wear a life jacket while in transit and must wear appropriate footwear, not sandals or flip-flops. Reservations should be made at least six hours in advance at bit.ly/NLLedgeLight or by calling (203) 444-2884.

The cost is $60 for adults and $50 for maritime society members and those 7 to 18 years of age.
