Win over Stamford advances Babe Ruth 15-year-olds to state championsh­ip game

Waterford — Owen Coderre pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief to help the Waterford 15-year-old Babe Ruth team beat Stamford 13-6 Wednesday and advance to the state championsh­ip game.

Mike Marelli had a two-run double and finished with two hits for Waterford.

Other noteable hitters included Trey Brennan (double, two runs, two RBI), Anthony Tonucci (two hits, two runs, two RBI), Ryan O'Connell (two runs, two RBI) and Robert Zawacki (two hits, including a double). Dan Driscoll also had an RBI.

Waterford will play at 5:30 p.m. Friday against the winner of Thursday's New Milford-Stamford game.

District 10 LL baseball (11-12)

• Jackson LaLima's two-run double put Mystic ahead for good in the second inning in a 5-2 win over East Lyme in the first game of the District 10 championsh­ip series. Trace Morales allowed three hits and two runs with nine strikeouts over 5.1 innings for the victory. John Bureau paced East Lyme with two hits.

District 10 LL baseball (10-11)

• Mystic scored in each of the first four innings en route to an 8-6 win over Waterford on Tuesday to earn the District 10 championsh­ip. Dylan Joyce had three of Mystic's 13 hits and drove in four runs and teammate Hayden Chappel contribute­d three hits and three runs scored. Liam Joyce struck out eight over 4.2 innings for Mystic. Evan Bouges pitched three scoreless innings for Waterford, allowing one hit with four strikeouts. Brady Sutman, Tito Kiefer and Cooper Sheehan each had two hits for Waterford.

New York-Penn League

• In his debut with Connecticu­t, starter Chance Kirby struck out 12 over six scoreless innings to help the Tigers to a 3-1 win over the Batavia Muckdogs at Dodd Stadium. Kirby, selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 25th round of this year's draft, struck out six of the first eight batters he faced. He also struck out the side in the fourth and fifth innings. Nick Ames hit a solo home run in the second inning for Connecticu­t (12-13) and added a double. Darwin Alvarado had a two-run double to account for the Tigers' other runs.

NECBL

• A five-run third inning doomed the Mystic Schooners in a 5-4 loss to the Plymouth Pilgrims. Chris Sullivan (Hartford) went 3-for-4 to lead Mystic (16-12), while Sean Sullivan (Dartmouth) and Steven Barmakian (George Washington) each had two hits. Barmakian also drove in two runs. Karl Johnson (UConn) took the loss after allowing five runs, four earned, and six hits over 2.1 innings.
