Stonington — Jean M. (Carter) Spencer, 92, of Stonington, departed this world for her heavenly home on Friday, July 13, 2018. She passed away peacefully, at Yale New Haven Hospital, with her sons by her side.

Born in Melrose, Mass., on October 29, 1925, she was the daughter to the late John and Irene (Capers) Carter and lived in Stonington, since 1993. Her husband, Robert L. Spencer, predeceased her in 2014, and her only sibling, Eleanor Laycock, predeceased her in 2017.

She was a fashionable and compassionate person who touched all those she met with kindness and understanding. She enjoyed oil painting, playing cards and boating with her family, and traveling and cruising with her dear husband.

She is survived by her two sons, Dr. Brian Spencer of Stonington, and Barry Spencer and his wife Lindy of Wauwatosa, Wis.; and two grandchildren, Nicole of Wauwatosa, Wis., and Shawn of Jackson, Wis.

The family would like to thank the staff of Stonington Volunteer Ambulance Corps and the wonderful paramedics, doctors and nurses at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital and Yale New Haven Hospital, for the timely and compassionate care Mrs. Spencer received during her time of need.
