Tigers blank Spikes

Norwich — Alex Garcia drove in all three runs as the Connecticu­t Tigers defeated the State College Spikes 3-0 on Wednesday at Dodd Stadium, the Tigers' first shutout of the New York-Penn League baseball season.

Connecticu­t (19-17) was nohit until Jordan Verdon singled with two outs in the seventh. The Tigers had taken a 1-0 lead an inning earlier when Dayton Dugas walked, advanced to second on a stolen base and third on a passed ball before Garcia hit a sacrifice fly to left.

Garcia added insurance runs for the Tigers in the eighth on a two-out, two-run double to left-center field that scored Dugas and Clark Brinkman.

Chance Kirby (2-1) pitched six shutout innings to earn the win, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out six. Dylan Stock and Ethan DeCaster combined for three hitless innings of relief with DeCaster earning his first save.

Schooners fall

• The Mystic Schooners were held to six hits in a 7-0 loss to the Plymouth Pilgrims in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Sean Sullivan (Dartmouth) had two hits for Mystic (2020). Chris Troye (Cal Santa Barbara) started on the mound for Mystic. Troy (1-2) allowed one run and one hit over five innings, striking out six with two walks.

Legion baseball

• Niantic's season came to an end with a 2-1 loss to West Hartford in the state tournament's first round. Ryan Kane allowed four hits and one earned run over six innings. Tom Mason had two hits and Matt Abbey and Kane had doubles for Niantic.

Little League baseball (9-11)

• Mystic's game against Westport in the championsh­ip round of the state tournament was postponed by rain. The teams will meet today, weather permitting, at Seamster Park in East Hampton beginning at 5:30 p.m. Should Westport win, the teams will play a deciding game on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Women's basketball

• New London's India Pagan, who will be a sophomore at Division I Stony Brook, recently completed her first stint with the Puerto Rico women's national team. The team went 4-1 and defeated Mexico 60-52 to finish third in the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquil­la, Colombia. The tournament ended Tuesday night. Pagan played in three of the five games, with her best game coming during a 109-40 victory over Barbados in pool play when she scored eight points and finished with a team-high six rebounds.

Black Wolves re-sign Thorimbert

• The New England Black Wolves have signed veteran faceoff specialist Jay Thorimbert to a one-year contract. Thorimbert ranks second in National Lacrosse League history with 2,249 faceoff wins and is eighth in loose balls with 1,464 for his career. During the 2017-18 season, Thorimbert was second in the league with 245 wins on 472 draws and scooped up 136 loose balls, the eighth highest total on the year.
