East Lyme opens play in LL tournament today

Cranston, R.I. — State champion East Lyme opens play in the Little League Eastern Region (ages 9-10) baseball tournament today.

East Lyme will play four pool play games in the six-team New England Region, starting with today's game against Maine champion South Portland at noon.

East Lyme plays Massachusetts champion Barnstable on Sunday at 5 p.m., Vermont champion Browns River on New England title on Friday, Aug. 10 and the winner will play the Mid-Atlantic champion for the tournament title on Saturday, Aug. 11. The Mid-Atlantic tournament is also being played at Cranston.

Kelley Half Marathon

• The 56th Annual Ocean Beach/ John & Jessie Kelley Half Marathon will take place from 9 a.m.-noon today in New London and Waterford. The following is the route that will be taken by the runners; please expect slight delays and use caution: Exit Ocean Beach to Ocean Avenue, Lower Boulevard, Glenwood Avenue crossing Ocean Avenue into Waterford, eventually ending up on Great Neck Road, Rope Ferry Road, Willetts Avenue crossing Ocean Avenue, Montauk Avenue, Pequot Avenue and finishing back at the beach. Tigers are postponed

• The Connecticut Tigers had their game at the Staten Island Yankees postponed due to wet field conditions. The New York-Penn League teams will play a doubleheader today, beginning at 5 p.m.
