Robert Ramsdell

Ledyard — Robert “Bob” Trenchard Ramsdell, 82, husband of 59 years to Judith (Adeski) Ramsdell, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2018, after a long illness.

He was born in Springfield, Mass., the son of the late George and Irma (Sanderson) Ramsdell. A recent resident of Mystic, Bob lived most of his life in Ledyard.

Bob, a veteran of the U.S. Army, had a career in the property and casualty insurance business, serving as president of NLC Insurance Companies in Norwich for 23 years, retiring in 2001. He also served on the board for several of Norwich’s business, including chairman of the board for The William W. Backus Hospital. Bob loved outdoor activities, especially swimming, hiking and biking, enjoying them well throughout his retirement up until his passing.

In addition to his wife, he leaves his three children, Kimberly Freemer of West Kingston, R.I., Kathleen Ramsdell and her wife, Amy Roth, of Woodland Hills, Calif. and Robert T. Ramsdell and his wife, Annie Wildey, of Mystic; his sister, Marjorie Gariepy of Lancaster, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Marianne Freemer, Raymond Freemer, Michael Freemer, Joseph Freemer, Robert T. Ramsdell III and his wife, Kellyn Wagner-Ramsdell, Corey Roth-Ramsdell, Kevin Roth-Ramsdell, and Jack Ramsdell; a brother-in-law, Fred Radtke of Feeding Hills, Mass.; and many nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his sister, Priscilla Radtke; and his brother, George H. Ramsdell Jr.

His family will receive family and friends from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at the Mystic Funeral Home, located on Route 1 (51 Williams Ave.) in Mystic, followed by a service of remembrance at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
