Joseph Feinberg

-

New London — Joseph L. Feinberg, 91, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2018. at his son Jack’s home, while in the company of his entire family.

He was born in Fall River, Mass., in 1927, to Jacob and Mary Feinberg. At 17, he left to attend the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at King’s Point in Great Neck, N.Y., where he became an electrical engineer and was licensed to work on steam vessels. He was commissioned as an ensign in the U.S. Navy.

During his life, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to become involved in several business ventures. He started and owned a trucking company, manufacturers representative agency and a manufacturing company, Nutron, that continues to this day from its humble beginnings in his basement in 1960.

He was a modest man with a strong work ethic and great respect for this country and the opportunities that were available to all. He credited much of his success to the values that he learned while in the Merchant Marine and did his best to impart them to his family over the course of his lifetime. The academy’s motto, “acta non verba” — action not words — was a guiding principle throughout his life.

He is survived by his wife Phyllis (Brody) Feinberg of 66 years; three sons and their spouses, Jack and Gail Feinberg, Bruce and Anna Feinberg, and Michael and Heidi Feinberg; 12 grandchildren and a great-grandchild James.

Funeral services by the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, and interment in the Beth El Cemetery in Groton, were held on Sunday.

Our family especially thanks the many caregivers that assisted Joseph over the years.
