LISBON MAN DIES OF OVERDOSE AFTER COMPLETING COURTORDERED TREATMENT

A Lisbon man died of a drug overdose last month, less than three weeks after he completed a court-ordered drug treatment program.

Christopher G. Hasbrouck, 43, died on July 12 of an accidental overdose due to the combined effects of fentanyl, acetyl fentanyl, amitriptyline and buprenorphine, according to the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Due to his death, Judge Hillary B. Strackbein dismissed his pending drug-related charges Tuesday in New London Superior Court.

Convicted in 2014 of running a marijuana-growing operation in North Stonington and Lisbon, Hasbrouck served an 18-month prison term and was on probation when state police found him slumped over the wheel of his car at the Montville McDonald’s in October 2017. Troopers found 25 empty wax baggies stamped “New World” in his car, and Hasbrouck admitted he had been snorting heroin.

He also accrued several motor vehicle violations and was charged Feb. 7, 2018, with violation of probation. He remained incarcerated until May, when Strackbein released him on a written promise to appear so that he could attend a drug treatment program arranged by his attorney, Kevin C. Barrs.

Hasbrouck was admitted to a rehabilitation program at Connecticut Valley Hospital on May 15 and was discharged on June 22 after completing treatment, according to his court file. He was referred to an after-care treatment program operated by the Southeastern Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence and to a Norwich doctor for a medical follow-up and was encouraged to attend 12-step meetings, according to the file.

Court officials didn’t learn of Hasbrouck’s death until after he failed to appear for his Aug. 17 court date and the judge issued a warrant for his rearrest.
