Moy appointed as Eastern Connecticut Symphony Chorus director
The Eastern Connecticut Symphony Chorus has appointed Wendy K. Moy as its new director.
Moy succeeds past ECSC director Mark Singleton, who led the Chorus for nearly 20 years. ECSO Music Director Toshiyuki Shimada said, “Mark Singleton has created a chorus that any orchestral conductor would dream of collaborating with. After our intensive search for a new director, I am confident that Wendy Moy will be an excellent leader and will continue Mark’s legacy of building our beloved chorus.”
Moy is the director of choral activities and music education at Connecticut College and is the co-artistic director of Chorosynthesis Singers. She is frequently sought as a guest conductor and clinician and recently made her conducting debuts in Brazil and China. Other honors include placing third in The American Prize in Choral Conducting (professional division) and being selected as a Fellow in the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) International Conductors Exchange Program. She performs as a soprano soloist and currently sings in CONCORA as well as Chorosynthesis Singers when not conducting. A violinist since the age of 4, she held the positions of violin coach, chamber music coordinator, and assistant conductor with the Cascade Youth Symphony Organization. She has presented her ethnographic research on the culture of successful singing communities at conferences around the world.
Moy, who was chosen after a search for a new director, said, “I am excited to join the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Chorus as their new Director. I look forward to getting to know the musicians and creating beautiful and engaging music together.”
President and member of the ECSC, Kathy Walburn, said, “Mark’s accomplishments with the chorus were remarkable in shaping and directing our sound for the past 18 years, making us one of the most accomplished singing groups in the area. He will be missed. But as one door closes, another always opens, and we are very excited to embrace the next stage of our musical journey with Wendy Moy!”
Moy will lead the chorus in preparation for their two classical concert appearances with the ECSO on Nov. 17, 2018, and April 27, 2019. Additionally, she will prepare and direct the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Chorus for their concerts in the fall and winter.
