Ken was born on Dec. 4, 1925, to Marguerite Ely Plimpton and Kenneth dePau Plimpton Sr. of Lyme. He was the first of three sons. He married Betty Bull in January of 1947 and they made their home on Sterling City Road in Lyme. Betty died in 1994. Ken was also predeceased by his mother, father and younger brothers, Allan Ely Plimpton and Julian Howard Plimpton.

Surviving is his daughter, Carol Ely Plimpton, Ph.D., of Toledo, Ohio. Ken had many good friends, especially Karen Dahle, Sue Hessel and special friend, Flora Kyle. He delighted in his “adopted” family, the Signoras: Paula, Walter, Kyle, McLean, and Luca. His first cousins, Wendy Figler and Michael Willett also survive.

Ken was an employee of UARCO in Deep River for many years. He was a charter member of the Lyme Fire Department and was active as a fireman and then as fire police. Upon retirement from UARCO, he delivered Meals on Wheels from the Lymes’ Senior Center as a volunteer.

Ken served in the Air Force during World War II and was stationed in Biloxi, Miss.

In his later years, Ken developed a passion for walking at the DEEP on the Connecticut River in Old Lyme. Rain or shine, Ken could be found walking his daily mile and chatting with his walking buddies, Jill, Barbara and Jim. Over the years the friendships grew and Ken delighted in his time with them at the docks.
