NEW LONDON SCHOOL BUSES FIND HOME IN CITY

New London — The New London Housing Authority board of commissioners on Tuesday approved a joint agreement and parking license that will allow a school bus fleet use of the parking lot at the vacant Thames River Apartments off Crystal Avenue.

The agreement will allow Student Transportation of America to park up to 61 passenger vehicles and 46 school buses at a rate of $71 a month for passenger spaces and $91 a month for bus spaces.

The agreement was signed by representatives of the Housing Authority, city administration, the school district and bus company.

The agreement is for a month-tomonth lease. The city is expected to take ownership of the property from the Housing Authority next month. The City Council first must authorize appropriation of the $185,000 price tag.

Student Transportation of America, which has a transportation contract with the New London school district, was seeking a new location to park its buses in the city after losing its previous location in the Fort Trumbull area. The city did not renew a contract with M&T Parking, which was subleasing the lot at 41 Walbach St. to the bus company. The city plans to use that lot for paid public parking.

The city is helping the bus company to find a permanent home in the city since it is marketing the Thames River Apartments property to developers.
