Veterans’ Services staff with the Connecticu­t Department of Labor will offer workforce assistance, including employment and training guidance, to veterans during Stand Down 2018, taking place 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 21 on the grounds of the Connecticu­t Department of Veterans’ Affairs main campus, 287 West St. in Rocky Hill.

More than 30 government agencies and social service organizati­ons are taking part in the event, which is open to the more than 200,000 veterans in this state. Organized by the state VA, the event offers informatio­n and services related to education and workforce needs, state and VA benefits, and legal or motor vehicle issues, as well as housing referrals, and medical, dental and mental health screenings. Free clothing also is distribute­d.

Veterans needing transporta­tion to Stand Down 2018 can use the free bus service provided by the Connecticu­t Department of Transporta­tion from a number of locations around the state. For informatio­n about transporta­tion or other Stand Down questions, please call (860) 616-3808.
