Stonington — Patricia H. (Faulkner) Vargas, 87, of Stonington, predecease­d by her husband, Austin A. Vargas, fell asleep in the Lord Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018. May her memory be eternal!

Born in Northampto­n, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Helen O’Reilly and was a longtime resident of Stonington.

Pat was a graduate of Smith College in Northampto­n, Mass. and obtained a master’s in library science from the University of Rhode Island. She was a librarian for many years with the Groton Public Library where she retired in 1995.

Pat was a voracious reader and lifelong learner. She had many interests including a love of adventure and travel, having met her husband in Indonesia while teaching, to rounding the globe multiple times; to playing tennis and golf, drinking wine and eating good food (especially ice cream!) She loved and was loved.

She is survived by her three sons, Joseph Vargas and his wife, Sharon, of Stonington, David Vargas and his wife, Catherine, of Rocky Hill and Michael Vargas of Stonington; eight grandchild­ren, Andrea Vargas, Amanda Magliari (Saverio), Natasha Bouley (Steven), Nicholas Vargas, Jennifer Bray (John), Jessica Vargas, Angela Connolly (Graham) and Katelyn Vargas; and five great-grandchild­ren.

Pat was predecease­d by her two sisters, Dottie O’Connell and Peggy Stephens; and by her longtime companion, Charlie Lathrop.

A visiting hour will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, followed by a service at 11 a.m., at the Mystic Funeral Home, located on Route 1 in Mystic. Following the service, burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Stonington.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Pat to either the Alzheimer Associatio­n (www.alz.org) or the Stonington Free Library (www.stonington­freelibrar­y. com).

Charlton, Mass. — John A. “Jay” Lindroos, 59, passed away unexpected­ly on Friday, Aug. 24, 2018, at Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridg­e, Mass., after being stricken in his home.

He leaves his wife of 26 years, Edith J. “DeDee” (James) Lindroos; two sisters, Kathy Brandenbur­g and her husband, Richard, of Inverness, Fla. and Dianne Morton and her husband, Steve, of West Greenwich, R.I.; a niece, Stephanie Lindroos of Thornton, N.H.; a nephew, Brett James of Oakdale; and two grand-nephews, Ethan and Kim McDonald.

Jay was born in Warwick, R.I., son of the late John S. and Lempi S. (Kiviranta) Lindroos and lived in Uncasville for many years prior to moving to Charlton a year ago.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1977 to 1979. Jay worked for the Casino Gaming Commission of Massachuse­tts as a senior supervisin­g gaming agent for three years. Prior to that he worked at Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun in surveillan­ce and security.

He enjoyed NASCAR, drag racing and motorcycle­s and being at the shooting range.

There are no calling hours. Funeral services will be private at a later date, as per his wishes.

Leeds, Ala. — F. Keith Burgess Jr., born in New London on Aug. 5, 1961, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 27, 2018, while getting ready for the job he loved.

He is survived by his mother, Audrey F. Burgess; his sisters, Bonnie Moon, Cindy Burgess-Russotti and Tracy Sagun.

He his predecease­d by his father, F. Keith Burgess Sr.

Keith’s roots were in the north but his heart was in the south. He had many friends who loved him and considered him a brother. He was very generous and kind, and often gave unselfishl­y, sometimes at his own expense. Keith was shop manager at BLT Steel Fabricatio­n Inc. in Leeds, Ala.

He was a master craftsman whose attention to detail and eye for the precise measure made him a standout among his peers. He was proud of the knowledge and skills he learned from his father and he in turn passed them on to his co-workers.

His loves were: family, friends, his Harley, guns, NASCAR-especially #3, Alabama Crimson Tide and retelling childhood stories.
