ONLINE FEEDBACK

-

Online readers commented in favor of the state’s new arrangement to allow texting to 9-1-1, reported Aug. 29 in the article, “With text-to-911 active, domestic violence coalition to launch texting for hotlines.”

“I can see where this will be a good tool!” — WTFD Resident

“This new way to call by texting for help (911) will benefit Seniors as well. They often get surrounded by those taking advantage of them financially, and can’t make a call for help or their phone will be taken away - or conveniently “lost.” It could be a paid housekeeper or companion, or it could be a nephew, grandchild, sibling, or one of their own children, or spouse. Someone who wants something from the Senior will hurt them, or someone will physically hurt them in order to terrify the Senior into doing what they want. (Revolves around money and possessions) Almost nothing is more frightening than to know you’re being emotionally ignored, physically isolated, and being set up to be financially decimated. Being able to text 911 will help so many older people.” — wisewithage

“Of course this is an EXCELLENT Idea. I also want to commend our HERO’S, those 911 Dispatchers, behind the scene of EVERY EMERGENCY throughout the Country. Without their dedicated work, nobody is responding anywhere, for any kind of emergency help. To ALL of our 911 Dispatchers, whether we text you or call you, ‘YOU are there for us.’ We depend on your services whether it be the Fourth of July Holiday or any other holiday, 3pm in the afternoon, or 3am in the morning. When we need you, nobody else counts. We depend on you to make sure we get the proper life saving help whether through our quiet whispers or loud screams. And now, also through our emergency text messages to you. During those moments, ‘you are our only contact and we need you to put your expertise to work for us.’ How do we THANK YOU for what you do ? You have been a life saving help to so many of us over the years. THANK YOU. Respectfully, William Dennis Norwich, Ct” — WillyNFD2004
