Norwich — Xavier “Zay” Tyrone Jarmon, 40, passed away unexpected­ly in his home on Aug. 31, 2018, in Jewett City.

He was born on Nov. 26, 1977, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, to Patricia Knowles and Reginald Jarmon.

Xavier attended Norwich Free Academy and served in the U.S. Marine Corps, from July 1, 1996, to Sept. 2, 2000, where he was stationed at Okinawa Prefecture and Camp Lejeune bases. He was a member of the Veteran’s Associatio­n. He married Shayna Elaine Jarmon on May 15, 2009, in Groton. Xavier worked as a cook and was known for his insatiable palate and passion for the culinary arts. He was an avid sports fan and fervently expressed his incessant loyalty to the Oakland Raiders and the New York Yankees. “Zay” (also referred to as Tyrone by his family) was known for his unmistakab­le smile and mnemonic knack for calculatin­g numbers. He had future aspiration­s on becoming the family accountant.

Xavier is survived by his spouse, Shayna Elaine Jarmon of Jewett City; his two sons, Dominic and Michael Jarmon of Norwich; three stepchildr­en, Dalton Metcalf, Alana Niedjadlo and Benjamin Niedjadlo of Jewett City; his parents, Patricia Knowles and Reginald Jarmon, both of Norwich; his stepmother, Leona Jarmon of Norwich; his grandmothe­r, LaForest Knowles Oates of Norwich; his brother, Ray Thompson of Norwich; as well as a plethora of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and his loyal cat “Ting-Ting.”

Xavier was predecease­d by his brother, Roy Thompson; grandmothe­r, Macie Jarmon; grandfathe­rs, Harvey Eugene Knowles Sr. and Walter “Dallas” Montgomery; great-grandmothe­r, Martha Montgomery, and uncles, Michael Knowles and Ralph Jarmon.

Services will be held on Monday, Sept. 10, at Family Worship Center, 327 Huntington St. in New London. Calling hours are scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m., followed by a memorial service from 11 a.m. to noon.
