Hurley sparks the Bears to a victory
Former Waterford High School standout scores twice with a career-high three assists as CGA wins
New London — Former Waterford High School standout Claire Hurley scored two goals and had a career-high three assists as Coast Guard beat Framingham State 7-2 in a nonleague women's soccer game on Wednesday.
Lydia VanWinkle, Kylee Ballard, Kali Borden, Katharine Stroh and Lillian Goebel also scored for Coast Guard (2-0), which outshot Framingham 30-6. Hurley, a junior, also helped the Bears tie a program record with the seven goals. In other games: • Alex Baltazar scored twice as Connecticut College opened its season with a 5-0 win over Roger Williams in a nonleague game. Zoe Stublarec and Kat Norton had a goal and an assist each for the Camels, who outshot Roger Williams 43-6. Marielle McEnaney also scored and Samantha Miesemer had an assist for Conn.
• Mitchell College was outshot 452 in a 9-0 nonleague loss to Albertus Magnus. Drew Johndrow made 12 saves for Mitchell (0-4).
Men's soccer
• Coast Guard's Noa Pagatpatan scored the game-tying goal on a penalty kick eight minutes into the second half, and the Bears tied Johnson & Wales 1-1, their third straight overtime game of the season. Dakota Harich added five saves for Coast Guard (0-1-2).
College volleyball
• Lauren Hatfield had eight kills, nine digs and three aces as Coast Guard beat Trinity 25-18, 25-19, 25-18 in a nonleague match. Amanda Dake had nine kills and nine digs, Veronica Hine had nine digs and Nikki Sefcik had 15 assists for Coast Guard (4-1).
• Freshman Avery Light had 11 kills, six digs, two aces and two blocks and Grace McGee added 28 assists, four kills, three digs and two aces as Conn College began its season with a 2520, 28-26, 25-17 sweep over Western New England. Katie Howley had 10 kills and seven digs for Conn and Emma Hewlin had six aces, five kills and four digs.
• Albertus Magnus beat Mitchell College 21-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-23 in a nonleague match. Ariana Carter and Laurissa Amaker has 12 kills each, Shyla Phillips-Krick had 23 digs and Cameron Childs had 31 assists for Mitchell (0-3).
College field hockey
• Connecticut College lost to No. 7 Babson 3-1 in its season opener. Sophomore Abby King scored her first collegiate goal for Conn.
Black Wolves sign Hill
The New England Black Wolves signed goalie Warren Hill to a twoyear contract, pending league approval.
Selected with the 20th overall pick in the 2016 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft by the Georgia Swarm, the Syracuse product spent the 2016 and 2017 seasons on the Swarm practice roster. In the 2017-18 season, Hill saw action in two games, making i30 saves.
Hill served as the netminder for the Iroquois National Team at the 2018 and 2014 FIL World Outdoor Lacrosse Championships, winning a bronze medal at each games. Indoors, he captured a silver medal with the Iroquois at the FIL World Indoor Championship in 2015. He won a Mann Cup as a member of the Six Nations Arrows in 2016.
