New Rochelle, N.Y. — Neslie D. Sutton Sr. “Peter” was born in New Rochelle on June 5, 1945, and passed away Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018.

He was the second of two children born to Otis Sutton and Frances (Phelps) Sutton, both of whom preceded him in death. Neslie graduated from New Rochelle High School in 1962 and joined the U.S. Navy in 1963. During his time in the service, he was stationed at numerous duty stations, most notably, in-country Vietnam during the Vietnam War, Midway Island and Brunswick, Maine, where he met and married Juanita (Scott) Sutton in December 1968. Upon retiring from the Navy after 22 years, in 1985, Neslie worked at General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton and New London until his retirement after 20 years, in April 2006. During 37 years of living in Groton, Neslie held several odd jobs around the area. He enjoyed bowling, and was an avid participan­t in local charity runs (he finished two marathons!) A friend to many, he was loved and respected by all.

Neslie leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Juanita Sutton; two sons, Neslie Sutton Jr. (Janet) of Sanford, Fla., and Micheal Sutton of Lawton, Okla.; two daughters, Denise Stokes (Tony) of Odenton, Md., and Stephanie Sutton of Groton; one sister, Ardella “Peggy” Sutton of New Rochelle, N.Y.; two nieces, Heidi Brown of Mount Vernon, N.Y., and Jihan Coleman of Yonkers, N.Y.; five grandchild­ren, Darlene Rocket, Jaleesa and Eric Sutton, and Kiara and Darion Stokes; four great-grandchild­ren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 181 Ocean Ave., New London, followed by a funeral service at 4 p.m., military honors at 5 p.m. Burial will be private.
