Palm Bay, Fla. — George E. Blatchford, 91, of Palm Bay, Fla., passed away peacefully at his home on Sept. 7, 2018. He was born May 12, 1927, in New London.

Survivors include his daughters Nancy Suscella of Sarasota, Fla. and Barbara Burnett (Carl) of Melbourne, Fla., nine grandchild­ren, 10 great-grandchild­ren, and one great-greatgrand­son. He was predecease­d by his wife Jennie, daughter Kathy Spencer, and son George Blatchford Jr.

George graduated from the Bulkeley School in New London in 1946, where he excelled in baseball and basketball. He served in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge with a rank of sergeant E5. George and Jennie raised their family in New London and then Waterford. He served as a commander of the Polish American Veterans Club in New London. He worked for New Penn Trucking for 37 years up to his retirement in 1983, at which time he relocated to Palm Bay, Fla.

George went back to work for Harris Corporatio­n in Palm Bay, retiring for the second time after 13 years of service. He also fulfilled a lifetime wish and took up the game of golf, and could be seen out on various courses up to his late 80s. He once again went back to work for the Olive Garden Restaurant in West Melbourne, Fla., retiring for a third time after 17 years of service. He was also a founding member of the American Legion Post #117, Palm Bay.

George was well liked by everyone he met. He enjoyed his family and friends. He was also a lifelong fan of the New York Giants and the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers.

He and his wife Jennie will be interred at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, Fla. A private memorial service will be held for family and friends.
