Groton — Margaret G. DeLia, 83, of Groton, passed away peacefully on Monday, Sept. 10, 2018, at Fairview in Groton.

She was born on Aug. 22, 1935, in New London, the daughter of Arthur and Frances (Scanlon) Eldridge.

During her high school years, Margaret was extremely proud to be a baton major and remembered so vividly marching in the parade in New York City. After graduation, Margaret went on to work as an operator for SNET for many years. She also worked at Eastern Point School in the cafeteria serving hot lunch.

She was married to Dominic J. DeLia on April 7, 1956. He passed away in 1995.

Margaret was a devoted mother and grandmothe­r who always put her family first. She leaves behind her son Nicholas DeLia (Laurie) of Gales Ferry, her daughter Frances Cooper of Gales Ferry, five grandchild­ren, Nicholle Boles (Manny), Meagan Studwell, Caroline and Michael DeLia, Jennifer Salls (David), five great-grandchild­ren, Sean and Natalia Boles, Lilyanna Studwell, Mariya and Zayne Salls, and one on the way!

She was predecease­d by her brothers Arthur and Francis Eldridge.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13, at Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St., Groton. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 14, at Byles-Groton Memorial Home. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.
