Freshmen help Ledyard boys roll to fourth straight soccer victory

Ledyard — Freshman Daimon Pollard scored a pair of goals as Ledyard rolled to an 8-0 boys' soccer victory over Griswold on Firday, the Colonels' fourth straight win.

Another freshman, Nick Washington, added a goal and two assists for the Colonels (5-1) while Cole Dirico and Ian Kamphersch­roer each had one goal and one assist, Eduardo Frias, Wes Hughes and Fabian May each scored a goal, and Joey Burton, Cam Reynolds and Mason Barnett added assists. In other games: • Tyler Velazquez scored a pair of goals to lift Montville past Killingly 4-0 in an Eastern Connecticu­t Conference Division III match.

Aaron Muncaster and Jack Minas also had goals for the Indians (5-1, 2-1) while Julian Valdes and Jack Varley each had an assist and goalie Keaton Sulman made two saves.

• Waterford scored a pair of second-half goals to defeat New London 3-1 in an ECC Division II match.

After Flavio Alvarado, assisted by Cesar Amaya, had given the Whalers (0-6, 0-3) an early 1-0 lead, Nikolas Zingus tied it for Waterford (Jose Guevara Gomez assisted) before Avery Albanese and Robbie Negahban scored goals in the final 40 minutes. Gomez assisted on Albanese's goal for the Lancers (1-4, 1-2) and Harrison Searle assisted on Negahban's goal.

• Ismaeil DePina had a goal and an assist as as Norwich Tech defeated Grasso Tech 3-1 in the Connecticu­t Technical Conference.

Kenny McKenna, assisted by DePina, and Kevin Porras also scored goals for the Warriors while goalie Don Duca made 11 saves. Jorge Serrano scored a second-half goal for the Eagles and goalie Joel Porter made nine saves.

• Scott Pion scored four goals and Ian Spracklin added two more to help Wheeler beat Tourtellot­te 6-0 in an ECC Division IV match. Spracklin and Seth Jones added two assists for the Lions (3-2, 3-0), who led 3-0 at halftime. Bowen Baker collected four saves for the shutout.

• Goals by Nick Fava and Jesper Silberberg lifted Old Lyme to a 2-0 victory over Portland in the Shoreline Conference. Michael Milazzo assisted on Fava's goal while Peter Sherman set up Silberberg. Gabe LaVoie made two saves for the Wildcats (2-3).

H.S. swimming

• Ella Dyjak and Elyse Gathy won two individual events apiece as Waterford defeated NFA 107-72 in the ECC. Dyjak won the 200-meter individual medley (2:34.57) and 400 freestyle (4:51.06) for the Lancers (2-1, 2-0) while Gathy captured the 200 free (2:27.30) and 100 backstroke (1:11.57). Jenna Morin (50 free, 33.77), Tallah Ryan (diving, 171.10 points), Elizabeth Hawkins (100 butterfly, 1:32.61) and Jayne Darras (100 free, 1:12.44) also won individual events for Waterford while Gloria Ng won the 100 breastroke (1:23.62) for NFA (1-3, 1-2).

• Grace Vlaun won a pair of individual events to lead East Lyme past Windham/Lyman Memorial/RHAM 91-61 in the ECC. Vlaun won the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.17) and 500 free (5:32.54) for the Vikings (2-0, 2-0), who also picked up individual wins from Grace Liu in the 200 IM (2:29.83), Mary Kathryn Taylor in the 50 free (26.59), Anna Johnson in diving (186.15 points), Katie Keating in the 100 butterfly (1:02.95), Kate Orefice in the 100 free (1:00.02), Ashwini Sahasrabud­he in the 100 backstroke (1:11.14) and Nikki Hahn in the 100 breaststro­ke (1:13.80).
