Rachel Anne Main of Jamaica Plain, Mass., and Carlsbad, Calif., passed away Sept. 7, 2017, at the age of 42 in Carlsbad, Calif.

Born Friday the 13th of September 1974 in Hartford, Conn., she grew up in West Hartford and Bozrah, Conn., graduating from Norwich Free Academy in 1992. A graduate of Blaine! The Hair and Beauty School in Boston and a licensed cosmetologist, she practiced her craft as a Hair Colorist at several downtown Boston salons, most recently at The Salon at 10 Newbury, until Parkinsonian dystonia curtailed her ability to work in her field.

At the time of her death she was completing an internship for her license in aromatherapy. She is survived by her parents, Renee and Dennis Main of Bozrah, Conn., and her sister, Carrie Main of Jamaica Plain, Mass.

Described as a kind and generous soul by those who knew her, Rachel was an advocate for people with disabilities and for children and animals.

Friends and family are welcome to attend a memorial bench dedication on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018, at 1 p.m. at Peter’s Gate entrance of The Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University, 78 Bussey St., Roslindale, MA, 02131 where she often walked her dogs, with a reception to follow.

Please omit flowers. Assisting a charitable organization of choice in her memory would be welcome.
