Davis Smith

Mystic — It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Davis K. Smith, 70, of Mystic, beloved husband to Julie (Valentine) Smith passed away peacefully at his home with his wife by his side on Friday, Sept. 28, 2018.

Born in Portland, Maine, to the late Madlyn and Melvin (Davis) Smith on June 30, 1948, Davis was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers local union 35 and the B.F. Hoxie Engine Company. For the last 20 years he was employed as an electrician at Foxwoods Resort Casino before becoming ill and having to retire.

Davis moved to Connecticut at the young age of 16 and shortly after met the love of his life, Julie Valentine. They were married on Jan. 14, 1967. The love they had for one another was like no other. Over the last few years as his illness progressed, his wife was by his side to care for him and fulfill his every wish. Everyone who knew him knew what a hard-working man he was, always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. Davis lived his legacy after his favorite song “I did it my way.”

In addition to his wife, Davis is survived by his two children, Robert K. Smith and his wife Renee of Ledyard, and Julie Manley and her husband Mark of Groton; four grandchildren, Nicole Caisse and her husband Brandon, Kassadi Manley, Destany Gillipsie, and Mark Manley Jr. and Rebekah Smith, two great-grandchildren, Isabel Alvarez and Brandon Caisse Jr. He is also survived by his two beloved cats, Missy and Angel.

Besides his parents, Davis was predeceased by his sister Sharon Burdy and granddaughter Jaclyn Smith.

The Smith family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Beachamp of South County Hospital Primary Care in Westerly, Dr. Lanna and Dr. Donaldson of Cardiovascular Institute of New England and Masonicare Care Hospice and their staff, and a special thank you to Denise Arnott.

As per Davis’s wishes, all services will be private.
