Project: 395 Dimensions: 189 feet long, 44.5 feet wide. Cost: up to $5.4 million Schedule: Work scheduled to start April 2019. Bridge will be closed for eight weeks starting in late June 2019. Detour: 5.9 miles, 12 minutes: West Town Street north onto Huntington Avenue, which becomes Plain Hill Road, east onto White Plains Road, which intersects with Scotland Road north of the bridge. Replace bridge on Scotland Road over Interstate

along West Town Street, north onto Huntington Avenue, which turns into Plain Hill Road and east onto White Plains Road, which intersects with Scotland Road north of the closure. DOT officials clocked the 5.9-mile detour route at 12 minutes.

Only that route will have detour signs, Reed said, but travelers are free to use other alternative routes.

Some work will be done from below on I-395, which might require single-lane closures on the highway during off-peak hours, Reed said. Crews also might store some equipment along the highway.

The project will entail replacing the concrete bridge

deck, all the steel bearings and some other deteriorated steel components, substructure bridge abutments and piers, painting the beam ends and installing new chain link protective fence with galvanized steel coated with PVC to prevent rust.

Reed said the projected $5.4 million cost was a “worst case” estimate, and he expects the actual cost estimate to be “much lower” once designs are completed.
