Barbara Lastella

Mystic — Barbara Wood Lastella, 89, of Mystic, formerly of Ledyard, went to be with the Lord Oct. 13, 2018. Daughter of the late Harold R. Wood and Catherine Baker Wood, she was born Jan. 16, 1929, in Pasadena, Calif. She married Anthony (Tony) Lastella on June 28, 1952, in New London. They were married for 53 years at the time of his passing Dec. 22, 2005.

She was the bookkeeper of their family business, Star Oil Company in Ledyard from 1946 until their retirement in 1977. She loved to work outside in the yard doing projects as well as managing all other household activities.

She is survived by one son, Ronald Lastella and his wife, Linda, of Ledyard; two daughters, Sharon Newer and her husband Wade of Keene, N.H., and Nancy Heard and her husband Roddy of Largo, Fla.; four grandchildren, Sarah Lastella and her husband Michael Gasda of Sunnyvale, Calif., Michael Lastella of New York, N.Y., Christopher Newer of Keene, N.H., and Keith Newer with his wife Rachael of Montville. She also leaves behind her brother, Donald Wood and his wife Carolyn of Waterford; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018, at Avery Stoddard Cemetery in Gales Ferry.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Center for Hospice Care Southeast Connecticut.
