Norwich — A flash fire started at Atlantic City Linen Supply on Thursday afternoon because a piece of equipment malfunctioned, Yantic Fire Chief Frank Blanchard said, and it spread across the ceiling of the factory floor.

Blanchard said one person was checked for inhalation injuries, because several dry chemical extinguishers were used, but he did not get injured and no medical attention was provided on site.

The two-alarm fire was reported at 3:12 p.m., Blanchard said. Assisting the Yantic Fire Engine Company at the 5 Consumers Ave. facility, near Dodd Stadium, were the East Great Plain, Taftville and Bozrah fire departments.

Blanchard said there was no significant damage to the building but there will be significant cleanup, due to the powder discharged from the extinguishers.

The Norwich fire marshal was on scene investigating, and General Manager Musalam Camasta said it appeared that one of the vents short-circuited.

The facility experienced a flash fire last October and a small machine fire in April.

“Unfortunately, this kind of business is conducive to situations like this,” Camasta said. “To make sure everyone’s safe, first of all, we conduct fire drills on a regular basis.”
