Lt. Tim Silva said police do not think foul play was involved; nor was there any threat to the public.

Police also notified the state’s attorney’s office, which Silva said was standard with any unattended death.

East Lyme — Police on Friday charged an East Lyme Middle School student with second-degree breach of peace after school officials reported the juvenile made a threatening statement toward the student body.

In a letter to parents and guardians, Principal Jason Bitgood said school officials promptly alerted police and school and district security of the threatening comments, which police found to be unsubstantiated.

The 14-year-old male student immediately was removed from class and police took the juvenile into custody, according to Chief Michael Finkelstein.

Police and school officials did not specify details of the threatening comments, but Finkelstein said a police investigation revealed there was “no intent to commit harm, just verbal threats.”

The student was charged and released to his family, with the case referred to Juvenile Court in Waterford.

Bitgood encouraged parents to contact East Lyme Middle School at (860) 739-4491 with any questions.
