Avalon Health Center Keeps Short-Term Rehab Residents At The Helm Of Their Lives

-

When an accident, injury, or knee/hip replacement surgery results in a trip to the hospital, getting back to full health is a priority. As you regain your strength and mobility, you want professional care, but you also want to feel comfortable as you recuperate. Sound sleep, good food, and peaceful surroundings aid in healing and rehabilitation. That’s why people in our area turn to the professionals at Avalon Health Center.

Recognized nationally by U.S. News & World Report as one of the best care facilities in the country and The New London Day’s “Best of” Skilled Nursing Center in 2018, Avalon is also the area’s only five-star rated CMS care facility in the greater Mystic area. While receiving these accolades is validation of the staff’s attention to excellence, the professionals at Avalon aren’t willing to rest on their reputation, and always strive to achieve higher standards by adapting to (and employing) best-in-class practices to enhance recovery.

“Aging adults are staying active longer in life and we’re here to help keep them in the game,” said Administrator Yvette Dobruck. “Whether it’s getting back on your feet after a break on the tennis court or recuperating after a scheduled hip replacement, we have the professionals to help you regain range and mobility and a residence to help you enjoy your stay here while you are recuperating. Our rooms are light, bright, well–furnished and well-equipped to help get you moving. Our food is outstanding and the care you’ll receive is compassionate, yet laser focused on helping you meet your goal of returning home.”

Rehab care can be challenging, regardless of where you seek it. However, Avalon residents enjoy the benefits of being part of a continuing care community and sharing a campus with StoneRidge Senior Living Community.

Recently, Avalon expanded its programs to include aquatic therapy sessions in an on-campus, saltwater pool. The water is gentle on participants’ skin and increases buoyancy, thereby making movements easy on joints and aiding in balance and mobility. Sessions are led by a licensed physical therapist only steps away from your bedroom door.

Access to top-tier dining is also a benefit during your Avalon stay. Executive Chef Robert Tripp plans and prepares meals to meet the tastes and nutritional needs of all residents. With a Culinary Institute of America education and 30 years of experience, Tripp uses locally sourced food to create award-winning farm-to-table menus. Chef Tripp has more than 30 Connecticut Magazine reader’s poll awards and now creates culinary masterpieces exclusively for Avalon and StoneRidge residents.

“You can eat in your room or share a meal with other rehab residents in our dining room. You can also invite family members to join you. In either location, you’ll enjoy the menu variety and fresh ingredients. My favorite dishes are the Roast Tenderloin and the Lobster Madeira which Chef Tripp prepares to perfection,” added Dobruck.

Attentive care when you’re not feeling at your best is important to short-term, rehabilitation patients. Our caregivers are reliable and friendly and will treat you with the respect and attention that you deserve during your stay, providing personalized consideration that treats you as a whole person – mind, body and spirit.

The array of short-term rehabilitation centers in New London County is great. People who chose Avalon Health Center for their short-term needs receive best-in-class medical attention, along with the benefits of location and personal luxuries while working hard to rehabilitate. Avalon Health Center places its short-term residents at the helm of their own lives, allowing them personal choice and freedoms along the challenging path back to an active, independent lifestyle.
