New London — Nadia Colette Zinz, 17, of New London passed away on Oct. 23, 2018.

Nobody wants to be writing an obituary for a 17-year-old bright, beautiful girl. But here it is. Nadia Colette Zinz was born in New London on Jan. 8, 2001. She attended The Friendship School, Regional Multi-Cultural Magnet School, Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School, Dual Language Middle School, Ledyard High School and New London High School. She was in her senior year at Roxborough High School in Philadelphia.

Nadia leaves behind a 21-month-old son, Kayden, the sunshine in her life. She leaves her mother, Brook Esquivel, her father, Kevin Zinz, and his wife, Alicia, her brothers, Rafael Galindo and Gavin Zinz.

Many people loved Nadia’s bright spirit; her maternal and paternal great-grandmothers, her maternal and paternal grandparents, her many aunts, uncles and second cousins on both sides, her paternal cousins, Jessica Bachinski and Alex Zinz and his son. She was predeceased by her cousin, Emily Zinz, and her brother, Eden Orion Funaioli.

She worked after school as a cashier at the Acme grocery store in Philadelphia, where she was well liked by fellow employees and customers. Her loving, shy nature, her creative spirit and funny antics were sometimes shadowed by darkness. But those who knew and loved her, and were loved by her, were the lucky ones. Rest in Peace, Nadia. A remembrance will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Quaker Hill Fire House.
