Stonington wins 10th straight ECC regular-season field hockey title

Stonington — Stonington put the finishing touches on its 10th consecutiv­e Eastern Connecticu­t Conference regular-season field hockey championsh­ip with a 2-1 victory over Woodstock Academy on Monday.

The Bears finish the regular-season 14-1-1 overall and 11-1 in the ECC, one game ahead of East Lyme in the final standings. They begin play in the ECC tournament on Tuesday at home as the top-seed against No. 4 Fitch/Ledyard at 6:30 p.m. East Lyme is the No. 2 seed and will host No. 3 Waterford in Tuesday's other semifinal, also at 6:30.

Stonington took a 1-0 lead in the first half on a goal by Ellie Korinek (assisted by Miranda Arruda).

The Centaurs tied it with 14:56 remainng on a goal by Eliza Dutson, but it took the Bears only 54 seconds to regain the lead when Arruda converted a penalty stroke.

Stonington held a 28-5 edge in shots, but Woodstock goalie Olivia Stanikmas made 21 saves. Abby Mann stopped four shots for Stonington.

H.S. volleyball

• Third-seeded Plainfield defeated No. 2 Montville 25-22, 25-11 and 25-23 in the semifinals of the ECC Division II tournament. Plainfield will play top-seeded Lyman Memorial, a 3-1 winner over No. 4 Griswold, for the title on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at Norwich Free Academy. Abby Diamantini had 12 digs for the Indians (15-7) while Maya Hillman added five blocks, Gabby Beal eight digs, Haley Kerwin 13 digs and Mackenzie Ullrich seven kills and five digs.

• Norwich Tech won its quarterfin­al round match in the Connecticu­t Technical Conference tournament with a 3-1 win over Wilcox Tech. Game scores were 25-20, 25-16, 23-25 and 2518. Riley Riewerts had 12 service points, two aces, 12 kills, nine assists and eight digs for the Warriors while Amaya Mendez added 13 assists, 11 kills and five digs, and Karen Preza had 10 service points, five kills, two blocks, two digs and two assists. No. 5 Norwich Tech will play at No. 1 Bullard-Havens in Thursday's semifinals.

H.S. boys' soccer

• The ECC Division II semifinals scheduled for Tuesday at Lyman Memorial have been moved due to unplayable field conditions at Lyman. As a result, the game between top-seeded Lyman and No. 4 Montville will move to Waterford at 2 p.m., and the game between No. 2. Windham and No. 3 Wheeler will move to New London at 2 p.m.
