Norwich political town committees funding school bus rides to city polls.

Norwich — The city will provide bus transportation to four polling places from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday from several senior housing complexes and other prominent locations to polling places for those districts, a service funded by the two political town committees.

Republican Registrar Dianne Slopak said First Student, the city’s school bus company, had provided school buses for rides to the polls in past years for a nominal fee. But this year, the fee is $276 per bus, so the registrars solicited donations from the Democratic and Republican town committees. The two committees also provide direct rides to the polls upon request, Slopak said.

The bus route to and from Precinct 2 at the Rose City Senior Center, 8 Mahan Drive, will have pickup points at Wequonnoc School at 155 Providence St., Taftville and the Greeneville playground on Central Avenue.

The bus route to and from Precinct 3 at the Samuel Huntington School, 80 West Town St., will pick up voters at St. Jude Commons, 3 Myrtle Drive.

The bus route to and from Precinct 4 at the John B. Stanton School, 386 New London Turnpike, will have stops at 10 Westwood Park, Eastwood Court at 20 Stanley Place, Chase Manor I and II at 85 Norman Road and Village Court at 70 Mechanic St.

The bus route to and from Precinct 6 at AHEPA 110-II, 380 Hamilton Ave., will stop at Rosewood Manor, 335 Hamilton Ave.; Hamilton Park Apartments, 281 Hamilton Ave.; Pukallus Apartments, 110 Pukallus Ave., and Schwartz Manor, 382 Laurel Hill Ave.

Slopak said the registrars have not received requests for bus service to Precinct 1 at the John M. Moriarty School, 20 Lawler Lane, or to Precinct 5 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 248 Broadway.
