‘SONGS FROM THE WORLD WARS’ PERFORMED AT THAMES CLUB
Norwich’s Chelsea Players’ Cabaret Ensemble will present “Songs from the World Wars” in honor of the Centennial of the Armistice that ended World War I at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Thames Club in New London.
The program of songs from the home front of World War I and World War II honors and commemorates veterans of all branches of the military, and all who have served our country. The celebration will occur precisely at the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I, which was 11 a.m. on November 11th, 1918.
The show’s all female cast includes Anne Flammang, Flock Theater board member who retired as captain in the Coast Guard. The singers have appeared in many Chelsea Players shows and in community theater throughout eastern Connecticut. Faye Ringel is artistic director, and she and Roz Etra will provide the musical accompaniment for these songs of the World Wars, such as “Over There,” “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B,” “Bluebirds Over the White Cliffs of Dover,” and patriotic songs such as “God Bless America.” Other Irving Berlin tunes include “Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor,” his setting of Emma Lazarus’s sonnet inscribed on the Statue of Liberty.
