After the federal indictment of five utility executives, state Sen. Heather Somers, R-Groton, called for a major overhaul of the Connecticut Municipal Electric Energy Cooperative and its possible dissolution. Here is what some readers of theday.com had to say about that.

“Thank you so much Senator Somers. CMEEC, member Utilities and local municipal governments have done nothing to improve this situation. Without third party intervention the Derby Boys would still be running wild. CMEEC cannot be allowed to continue in its present form.”

“These trips had been happening for years, where were the critics like Somers then? Or is it just the current atmosphere? The trips were wrong then as they are now. The mission of the group was to control costs for energy, and that mission should continue. You don't disband the police department because of a few bad cops, do you?”

— Dean Morse

“Dean Morse — you have not been paying attention — Somers has been on this for two years — this was her bill. They have not met their mission, as we found out, as they do not control costs, they seem to be inflating them to make money to go on trips with their buddies. We get it that you do not support anyone in the GOP — enough already. This is not about Trump — it's about a legislator actually doing a great job.”

— Karen Haug

“@Dean Morse. Loyalty to a losing candidate you labored for becomes trite when it deflects from a bipartisan condemnation of corruption and illegalities. Should an independent state investigator be required to fully out this matter, Bob Statchen would have bipartisan support to take on those duties.”

— Jim Spellman

“It really doesn't matter which side of the fence straightens out this mess. As long as somebody does it. As it stands, it seems like Sen Somers has been doing that. In the Norwich area we have Sen Osten (D). Does she also believe this warrants some type of further investigation?”
