Waterford — Brenda Floyd, 68, of Waterford, passed away unexpected­ly on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018, at her home.

She was born on Sept. 5, 1950, in New London, the daughter of Joseph P. and Emily E. (Simmons) Coleman.

Brenda retired as a mess attendant at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, where she had worked for 35 years.

She married her loving husband, James W. Floyd, on Feb. 13, 1968, and this year they celebrated 50 years together. He survives her.

Brenda was a very generous and loving person who opened her home to anyone who needed a place to stay. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmothe­r who wanted the best for everyone around her. She will be profoundly missed.

Besides her husband, James, she is survived by her children, Charmaine Floyd, James Floyd Jr., Ronald Floyd, Jermaine Floyd, and Shantee Floyd; 13 grandchild­ren; two great-grandchild­ren; sisters Charmaine Johnson, Marcella Plummer, Jackie Cluff, Sharon Whitfield, Michelle Gibson; and brothers, Elliott Coleman, the Rev. Joseph Coleman, and Roderick Coleman.

She was predecease­d by her brother Glenn Coleman.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23, at Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New London.
