Groton — Nettie Sarsfield joined the Lord in eternal peace on Nov. 21, 2018.

Born May 9, 1921, in Groton to the late Lorita and Vincenzo Faluotico, Antoinette, nee Faluotico, Sarsfield was a lifelong resident of Groton. One of six children, she attended Colonel Ledyard School and Fitch High School.

She was employed by Max Pollack & Company thread mill in Groton, American Optical in Norwich and Groton Public Schools’ hot lunch program.

A lifetime parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Groton, Nettie was a member of the choir, Rosary Society and regularly volunteered her time for church and school activities.

She married the late William Edward Sarsfield Sept. 3, 1955, and together raised their three children in Groton. Bill and Nettie enjoyed traveling, camping, gardening and simply spending time with their family and friends. In retirement, as a members of the Groton Senior Center, they volunteered at local Red Cross blood drives and as true New Englanders, they cheered for the Boston Red Sox.

Nettie loved cooking and sewing and always delighted to host guests at her kitchen table to enjoy a “pick me up” coffee and biscotti. Everyone was welcome at Nettie’s kitchen table where she frequently reminisced about her upbringing in Groton and her Italian heritage. Her love for gardening and pruning her grape arbor was never a chore, but a labor of love. Many friends and family had the good fortune of indulging in Nettie’s homemade pasta sauce and grape juice harvested from her own backyard. She lived at the same warm, inviting home she was raised in since the age of 5.

Not known to many, Nettie had the unique experience of partaking in a brief sea trial on the USS Nautilus submerging into Long Island Sound. As a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, neighbor and friend, she was a great listener and shared her genuine wisdom and positivity with everyone she encountered.

Nettie is survived by daughters Mary Sarsfield and Catherine Rawdin; son Mark Sarsfield & wife Jean; grandson Spencer Rawdin; sisters Adriena Maynard and Rose Ott and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased her loving husband, Bill; her brother Edward Faluotico and sisters Folly Wolter and Eleanor Paradis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, 2018, at Sacred Heart Church, 56 Sacred Heart Drive, Groton followed by interment at Colonel Ledyard Cemetery. Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
