Coast Guard remains unbeaten

Kings Point, N.Y. — The Coast Guard Academy men's basketball team remained unbeaten with a 69-42 win over Merchant Marine Academy on Sunday.

Packy Witkowski led the Bears with 21 points. Justin Kane scored nine points and had six rebounds and Nolan Benson scored nine points for Coast Guard (6-0), which is off to its best start since the 2007-2008 season when it advanced to the NCAA Division III tournament quarterfin­als.

The game between Connecticu­t College at Coast Guard, scheduled for Wednesday, has been moved to Thursday at Coast Guard beginning at 7 p.m.

All executive offices and agencies of the federal government will close on Wednesday to pay homage to the memory of George H.W. Bush, the 41st president who passed away Friday night.

Road racing

• Mystic's Thomas Olendorf won the Pearl Harbor Masters 5.2-mile race in Waterford. Olendorf's time was 34:39 and Waterford's Natalie Edwards was the top women's finisher, coming in ninth in a time of 39:39. Also finishing in the top 10 were Roger Gosciminsk­i of Attleboro, Mass. (35:10), Jeremy Titus of Durham (35:16), William Liebler of Southingto­n (37:23), Keith Coburn of Waterford (37:54), William Finlayson of Higganum (38:04), Tracy Montoya of Waterford (38:39), Stephen Dinsmore of East Lyme (39:19) and Stephen Servidio of Mystic (39:46).

Women's swimming

• Connecticu­t College won the six-team Connecticu­t Cup on Saturday at Wesleyan. Maddie Ford won the 50-yard butterfly (27.13) and was on two winning relay teams for the Camels, who finished with 582 points and beat second-place Coast Guard by 28.

Kenzie Healy and Olivia Haskell joined Ford in winning the 200 (1:39.81) and 400 freestyle relays (3:37.94). Conn's 200 medley relay team of Maeve Wilber, Brooklyn Hayes and Vaughn Ammon won in a time of 1:50.39.
