David Collins

Gales Ferry — David Michael Collins, of Gales Ferry, passed away at the age of 63 on Nov. 15, 2018 at his home. He was born on Aug. 11, 1955, in Burbank, Ill., to the late Mary (O’Lone) Collins and the late Charles Collins. He graduated from St. Laurence High School in 1973 and joined the United States Navy where he served 4 years on the USS Fulton and the USS Gilmore. While serving in the Navy he met his now ex-wife, Donna (Allen) Collins, and chose to settle down in Gales Ferry. After serving in the Navy he worked at Electric Boat in Groton from which he retired. On April 22, 2016 he opened his restaurant Triple B Best Burgers and Brew in Gales Ferry where his staff quickly became part of his family.

There are so many wonderful things that can be said about Dave. He was very proud of his community and tried his best every day to be a positive part of it. Dave was known to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was a giver and wanted to help out anytime he was able to. Christmas was his favorite time since it was all about the things he enjoyed the most, giving, friends, family, and loved ones. He will always be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews for always giving toys no matter how old they got. More than anything he loved his grandchildren and taught them so many valuable life lessons for which they will forever be grateful.

Dave was predeceased by his parents and brother Jimmy Collins. He is survived by his sister Mary Kay Gute and husband Ted, brother Tim Collins and wife Karen, brother Kevin Collins and wife Kim, sister Colleen Biszewski and husband Rick, son Toby Collins, daughter Mary Collins, grandchildren Norma Collins and Alex Wilson, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and his life partner and friend Susan Fazikas.

On Dec. 16, 2018, his family invites you to the 11 a.m. Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes in Gales Ferry followed by a memorial at Triple B from 12:30 until 3 p.m.
