Florence Young

Westerly — Florence M. Young, 85, an Air Force veteran and wife of the late Emery W. Young Sr., passed away peacefully at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018.

She was born in Long Branch, N.J. to the late Josephine (Michinski) and Steven Fritz.

She retired in 1999 following a 25-year career as an executive secretary both at the military base in Hawaii and Groton.

Florence and Emery, a U.S. Naval Officer, were married for 54 years and stationed in Groton, Kansas City, Mo., Rota, Spain, Key Port, Wash. and Oahu, Hawaii prior to his retirement.

Mrs. Young was a 42-year member and past matron of Deborah Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and a past grand matron of Grand Chapter of RI, Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Kathryn Shaw (Kevin), Emery W. Young Jr. (Jean), Kurt J. Young (Meg) and Patricia Lee Bodiford (Ben). In addition, she is survived by nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Patricia Collins, Helen Frotten and Steven Fritz. She is also survived by a niece and Goddaughter, Debra L. Collins.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Friday, Dec. 14, at the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15 at the funeral home.
