Stephen Salowitz
Cumming, Ga. — Stephen Harris Salowitz, 71, of Cumming, died of complications from Parkinson’s on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018, surrounded by his wife and daughters.
Steve is survived by his wife, Ellen, of 48 years; daughters, Alyson Hartman and her husband, Michael, of Alpharetta, Ga. and Jennifer Engel and her husband, Lee, of Roswell, Ga.; grandchildren, Grace and Maddie Engel, and Reid, Josh and Sam Hartman. He is also survived by his brother, Eric Salowitz, and his wife, Karen, of Sun Lakes, Ariz.; and loving brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephew.
Steve, son of Jack and Rita Salowitz, was born and raised in New London, where he met and married his high school sweetheart. He taught elementary school before moving on to a career in engineering with Stone & Webster for 36 years. His career brought him to Forked River, N.J.. Baton Rouge, La., Huntsville, Ala. and Abingdon, Md. He retired to Georgia to be close to his daughters and grandchildren. Steve was an avid Alabama fan and longtime Boston Red Sox fan. He was happiest being at the pool or beach and surrounded by family. After having grandchildren, he became known to most as Gippie. Prior to his rapid decline, Steve enjoyed his last days at a family celebration where he was able to spend time with many of his extended family and friends.
Visiting hours will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, Monday, Dec. 17 and Tuesday, Dec. 18, at the home of Ellen and Steve. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, at Congregation Dor Tamid in Johns Creek, Ga.
