Richard Montminy
Oakdale — Richard T. Montminy, 81, died after a lengthy illness yet unexpectedly at his home on Monday.
He was born in New Bedford, Mass. on March 15, 1937 to the late Joseph and Lillian (Seymour) Montminy. He served his country in the U.S. Navy until his honorable discharge and went to work with the Teamsters Local 493 for Sealtest and Wonderbread until his retirement 34 years later.
On May 10, 1958, he married his high school sweetheart, Yvette (Boutin) who predeceased him.
Never slowing down, Richard continued driving for Curtin Livery, the Mohegan Sun and Meals on Wheels for the TVCCA. He also volunteered at the Montville Senior Center, was a Scout Master for the Oakdale Boy Scout Troop 60 and was Founder and Honorary Member of the Oakdale Fire Dept., as well as a member of the American Legion. When not working or volunteering, Richard enjoyed western and science fiction movies and books, horses performing Ring Master services for local horse shows, watching the New England Patriots and playing cards with close friend Bob Petrosus.
He is survived by his children: Jean Montminy (Rozann), Robert Montminy (Janette), Sue Olds (Ken), Paul Montminy (Sherri), Michelle Montminy (Irene); brother: Ronald Montminy; sisters: Julie McAlister, Marie Harding; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Besides his wife Yvette, he was also predeceased by his sister, Irene Hockensmith and his son, Richard “Ricky” Montminy Jr.
Donations in his memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association or the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
A Celebration of Life Service and burial with military honors will be announced at a later date.
