TWO CHARGED IN GROTON ATTEMPTED ROBBERY, STABBING

-

Groton — City police said they have charged an 18-yearold man and an unidentified juvenile in connection with an attempted robbery that injured a 19-year-old man.

Darius Armadore, 18, of 48 Granite St., New London, was charged Thursday on a warrant for second-degree assault, first-degree robbery and criminal attempt at first-degree robbery, and the unidentified young man was charged with second-degree assault and criminal attempt at first-degree robbery.

According to the arrest warrant application, Armadore, the young man, the victim, a woman and a young woman had breakfast on Jan. 21 at the Groton Townhouse Restaurant after hanging out the night before at the Hilltop Express Inn. The victim later told police that when they paid their separate bills, he believed Armadore saw he was carrying $600 in cash, as he was going to go to Foxwoods’ Casino, and Armadore and the unidentified young man then planned to rob him.

When the victim was warming up his car after breakfast, Armadore asked for a ride for himself and the young man, according to the report. The victim initially said no because he wanted to go home but then agreed when Armadore told him the address and the GPS showed it was 8 minutes away.

The victim told police that while he was driving, Armadore picked up the victim’s Batman knife from the center console and said he had the same one and pulled the knife from his pocket, according to the warrant. As the victim arrived at the apartment building parking lot, Armadore opened the knife.

“The Victim parked his car and that is when (Armadore) told him to ‘run your (expletive)’ which the victim believed to mean empty his pockets and give (Armadore) his money,” the warrant states. The unidentified young man in the back seat moved behind the victim and put him in a choke-hold, as Armadore stabbed the victim while trying to take money from his pocket, the victim told police.

The victim said he was able to get away and get out of his car to the front near the hood, and the two men got out of the car and went to the driver’s door near the front windshield, according to the warrant. Armadore started stabbing the windshield but did not damage it, and he and the young man ran away.

The victim got back in his car and pulled over to a parking lot where he wrapped his T-shirt around “a large gash in his left upper arm” and then drove to his apartment in Rhode Island, and a friend took him to the South County Hospital, according to the police report. The victim received nine sutures in his left upper arm and two sutures to his chest, according to a medical report.

Groton City police requested that an arrest warrant be issued for Armadore, after receiving information from the South Kingstown Police Department and then investigating.
