Police expand investigation into voyeurism at Conn College

-

New London — Police on Friday said the investigation into voyeurism in dormitory bathrooms at Connecticut College has expanded to include more incidents than the five already reported.

Police said detectives still are conducting a thorough examination of several electronic devices owned by a 20-year-old Connecticut College student, whom police identified in connection with the case less than a day after The Day reported about the five voyeurism incidents between October and January. The ongoing review of the student’s devices prompted police to announce that the “the scope of the investigation is not limited to only the five reported incidents.”

Police earlier this week said they planned to apply for a warrant for the student’s arrest once the seized files have been examined. They have not yet released his name.

College officials told students in an email last week that the victims, all women, reported that cellphone cameras were pointed at them without their consent while they were preparing to shower.

City police now are asking anyone with information concerning these types of incidents, or those who have any reason to believe they might be a victim, to contact the detective bureau at (860) 447-1481. Anonymous information may be submitted via the New London Tips411 system by texting NLPDTip plus the information to 847411.

In addition to the police investigation, the college has enlisted a private firm to investigate the incidents under Title IX, which prohibits sex-based discrimination within educational institutions that receive federal funding.
