NL girls top Cromwell

New London — Tai Pagan had 18 points and 16 rebounds as No. 2 New London beat Cromwell 57-46 in a nonleague girls' basketball game on Saturday night. Xaryia Melendez had 18 points and eight rebounds, Spencer Roman had seven assists and Jayden Burns had four steals for the Whalers (17-2), who finish up their regular season by hosting East Lyme today at 5:30 p.m. Vanessa Stolstajne­r scored 20 points for Cromwell (16-3).

Men's indoor track

• Coast Guard freshman James Duren ran a career-best 49.68 in the 400 meters on Saturday at Boston University's Dave Hemery Invitation­al, good for 57th place. Josiah Davis had a 28th-place finish for the Bears in the 800, running a 1:52.54. Coast Guard's 4x400 relay team of Miguel Moroles, Duren, Daniel Taglianett­i and Davis were 20th in a season-best 3:20.48.

Danny Aschale of Connecticu­t College ran one of the top 10 times in Div. III this season, finishing the 3,000 in 8:18.90 which was good for 40th place. Conn's Ian McAleer broke the school record in the 200 with a time of 22.55, coming in 77th.

• Coast Guard also competed at MIT's Gordon Kelly Invitation­al on Saturday. Ben Zarlengo led the way with a second-place finish in the weight throw at 56-feet, 2-inches. Logan Bonner was third in the 3,000 (9:17.67) and Geoffrey Delorie was fourth in the 1,000 (2:57.12).

Women's indoor track

• Coast Guard took three of the top four spots in the 5,000 on Saturday at MIT's Gordon Kelly Invitation­al. Mia Hunchareck was second in 19:16.85, followed by Nayalina Tamariz (19:17) and Nina Ragle (19:21.79). Leilani Salang of Coast Guard was fourth in the shot with a put of 37-6.5.

• The 4x400 relay from Connecticu­t College finished 42nd at Boston University's Dave Hemery Invitation­al on Saturday. Ellie Ebby, Shannon Kennedy, Riley Peragine and Alicia Palmer finished with a time of 4:03.94.
