Moosup — Thomas Allen Greene, 72, of Moosup, passed away Feb. 11 at Hartford Hospital from complicati­ons related to heart surgery.

Tom entered life Dec. 4, 1946, a son to the late George Francis and Sadie Willcox Greene and is preceded in death by his brother, Ray. Tom was injured while serving his country in defense of freedom in the Republic of Vietnam in 1968, and was a life member of both the VFW, Plainfield and DAV, New London. Tom was employed by the State of Connecticu­t Department of Transporta­tion as a road maintainer and driver for over 20 years, retiring in 2009.

Tom enjoyed a full life with a love of all things outdoors that included hiking, camping and wildlife. He was also known for his meticulous manner when it came to the cleanlines­s of his vehicles. His love of animals knew no bounds: he would not allow any stray cats to go hungry despite the misgivings from his loving wife.

Tom is married to, and survived by, his loving wife, Mary (Bogue) Greene; children, Laurie, Tina and Will; as well as grandchild­ren, Marissa, Preston, Amanda and Melanie; and great-grandchild­ren, Caroline Rose and Jason. Tom is also survived by six siblings, George and wife Deb, Noyes and wife Shirley, Robert and wife Emma, Sadie and husband Elvin, and sisters, Ginger and Cindy; in addition to sister-in-law, Joan Greene; brothers-in-law, Ernie and wife Dot, Fred and wife Sara; several other cousins, nephews and nieces round out his large and loving family. Tom was also close to Arthur and Lisa Roberts of Moosup as well as Ron and his wife, Cheryl Millette of Pomfret.

A graveside service will take place at noon Feb. 23 within the confines of MainBrown Cemetery in Ledyard to all who are comfortabl­e in attending. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity in Tom’s name. The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St., Mystic, is assisting the family.
