Noank — Ina (Craig) Peterson, 94, of Noank died Friday, Feb. 15, 2019, at Apple Rehab in Mystic.

Born in Mystic, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Alice (Stevens) Craig and was a lifelong resident.

She was a past president of The American Legion Post 115, a longtime member of the VFW in Pawcatuck and a former chairman for the former Salvation Army Mystic Chapter.

Ina worked for many years in the restaurant and hotel industry as a waitress and hostess. She was also a companion and home health aide to the elderly. One of her favorite hobbies was knitting and sewing, making beautiful quilts for her family.

She leaves her six children, Gerhard (Gary) Petersen Jr. (Betty) of Mystic, Carol Smith (Wayne) of Mystic, Robert Petersen (Tina) of Noank, Thora Amaral (George) of Groton, Nancy Allen (James) of Stonington and Edward Peterson (Lynette) of Middletown; two sisters, Carolyn Hanley of Mystic and Martha Deveau of Zephyrhill­s, Fla.; 11 grandchild­ren, Jan, Cheryl, Sabrina, Laurence, George Amaral Jr., Matthew, Christina, Heather, Tyler, Edward and Emma; eight great-grandchild­ren, Natasha, Meagan, Asia, Damon, Mya, Aaani, Hunter and Elana; one great-great-grandson, Allen Carter III; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predecease­d by her husband, Gerhard L.B. Peterson; a daughter, Lisbeth McLaughlin; a brother, Malcolm Craig; and two grandsons, David McLaughlin and Wayne Smith Jr.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at the Mystic Funeral Home, located on Route 1 in Mystic. Her funeral service and burial will be held privately at the Noank Valley Cemetery.

Her family would like to thank the staff at Mystic River Homes, where she had been a resident, and Center for Hospice SECT for the comfort and care given to Ina.
