Coast Guard erupts for 20 hits in 17-3 baseball win over Becker

New London — Jon Pressley was 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI and Coast Guard Academy erupted for a season-high 20 hits and routed Becker 17-3 in a non-conference baseball game on Thursday.

Will Stephens added three hits and scored four runs for the Bears (6-4) while Jake Behne also had three hits and four RBI, including a three-run homer. It was his first career home run.

Freshmen Nolan Johnson and Cody Fidler each added two hits and an RBI for Coast Guard while another freshman, Connor Glynn, allowed only two hits, no walks and struck out three for his third win in relief this season. In another game: • CCRI scored both of its runs in the first inning and held on to defeat UConn Avery Point 2-1. Omar Montalvo had two hits for the Pointers (1-7) and New London's Aidan Brennan added an RBI single.

Men's lacrosse

• Purchase scored the game's final four goals to rally and beat Mitchell on Thursday, 13-11. Kyle Marsh had five goals and two assists and Jade Shields had four goals and an assist for the Mariners (1-5).

Women's swimming

Connecticu­t College had six swimmers compete on Day 2 of the NCAA Division III Championsh­ips in Greensboro, N.C., but not were able to advance out of the qualifying races. Andrea Higgins placed 17th in the 400-yard individual medley (4:30.09) and Maeve Wilber was 30th (4:38.06). In addition, Maddie Ford was 18th in the 200 freestyle (1:51.93) and Olivia Haskell was 19th (1:52.23), while the 200 freestyle relay team of Vaughn Ammon, Kenzie Healy, Haskell and Ford were 19th (1:35.92).

On Wednesday night, Haskell finished eighth in the 50 free (23.32) to earn All-American honors, while Wilber, Healy, Ammon and Haskell finished 13th in the 200 medley relay (1:44.49).
