NL PORT AUTHORITY POSTS ONLINE SURVEY FOR PUBLIC PARTICIPATION

New London — The New London Port Authority announced Friday that it has posted an online public opinion survey to gather information concerning the city’s harbor and waterfront.

Questions concerning public safety, boating and navigation, water quality, public access to and along the water, waterfront development and environmental conservation are included. Results from the survey will be used to help set the city’s priorities for use and conservation of harbor and waterfront areas in 2019 and beyond.

The survey is available at bit.ly/NLHarborS. There is also a link on the city’s website, ci.new-london. ct.us. Only about 10 minutes are required to complete it.

Public response to the survey is especially important, since the port authority now is in the process of preparing the city’s first Harbor Management Plan that will set goals and policies for safe and beneficial use of the harbor and conservation of natural coastal resources. The Harbor Management Plan will be a separate but complementary document to the New London Plan of Conservation and Development and will help the city take a more active role, in coordination with state and federal agencies, for managing the waterfront and harbor.

Both residents and visitors are urged to complete the survey and, at the end, submit any additional comments they may have. All responses will be confidential and carefully considered.

Results of the survey will be presented later this summer. The NLPA meets on the second Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the RCDA office at 216 Howard St. Everyone with an interest in the harbor is invited to attend and express their comments or suggestions.
