Commenters on theday.com reacted to the article “FBI, ICE mining driver’s license photos” (July 8).
“I think the good outweighs the bad here. In other words I wonder how many corrupt people have been taken down with this information. I have been mistaken for another person right out of Hospital records …. It’s not just the FBI or CIA.”
“Half of the states use photographed licenses for ID to Vote and Verified Licenses in 2020 will be used for even more purposes :
“…These identity-checked driver licenses and DMV-issued identification cards are part of a federal program showing that the credential holders meet a federal identity standard that begins in October of 2020 for entering federal buildings, boarding an airplane or doing commercial transactions. Six-year renewals of Connecticut licenses and IDs make it necessary to start the program now.”
“Ironic to me that some of the same people that decry government having access to these databases and talk about privacy rights (left leaning organizations like the ACLU) or (just a guess) a Washington Post reporter are some of the same exact people that are calling for government run healthcare.
“So we can’t trust the government with having a database of pictures for which those in the database have volunteered to provide their picture in order to have the privilege to drive a car... BUT ... we are perfectly OK with the government having access to and being the gatekeeper of our tissue biopsies, blood samples, genomic history, psychiatric history, and medical records?”
